DPHIL STUDENT

ichael began his DPhil in October 2020 and is studying the genetic determinants of blood pressure in the Mexico City Prospective Study. The work aims to discover new blood pressure-determining variants and validate the findings made in other populations. He hopes to go on to study the associations of genetically-predicted blood pressure with important causes of death.

Michael has previously completed a BA(Hons) and BMBCh from the University of Oxford before working as a doctor in Manchester and the Thames Valley deanery. He undertook the Oxford MSc in Global Health Science during which he studied the association between UMOD variants and progression of chronic kidney disease. He subsequently went on to Renal and General Medicine specialist training – he has taken time out of this to undertake his DPhil.
